Advice on making our baby behave

We adopted an eight month old staffy from the human society. This is the first time we have had the breed. In the past we had had rotties and a mix dog of rottie, german sheppard and chow, so we know what it is like to have a stubborn breed. However, we are finding our staffy to be quite diffferent. If you have any advice on how to make her listen and obey we would greatly appreciate it.
