Our 2.5 year old springer loves car rides. The entire time she is pretty amped up with her nose out the window and wanting to get out and explore all the neat places we drove past. It is like she OD’s on all the sights and smells of the ride. Once we arrive at the final location when you let her out of the car she proceeds to run as fast as she can in the direction that we just came from all the time barking like a crazy dog. We live at the end of a dirt road with little to no traffic so when she started doing this we were a little surprised and figured it was a phase and she would stop. Well she has not stopped and she will run about 700 feet up the road and then come back. Usually stops barking on the way back, circles around and does the same thing each time with smaller loops. Problem with this is she will do this after any car ride and not all locations are safe for a dog to get out and run like that. If I get in the car and move it 5 feet and she is in the car she will still do it. Dog is nuts. Only thing we can do is bring her straight into the house after a ride. Let her calm down for about 5 minutes and she is over it. If you don’t wait long enough and let her out too soon she will still do it but perhaps with a shorter loop. Any ideas on how to break this habit?
