Hello Everyone!! Hoping to reach someone out there who has had similar fates. My 7 yr old male dobie was having a cough that just wouldn’t go away so we took him to the vet, who did chest xrays and found his lungs filled with fluid and a very enlarged heart. He put him on meds for both conditions and we have to go back in 2 weeks. Were so very worried about him :(( His coughing has died down since we took him last and hes not exhibitng any symptoms of heart diease (no shortness of breath, no wheezing, no fatigue) he still eats, runs around for hours and acts just like himself. Were so torn and this 2 week wait to visit the vet is a killer. Anyone have any ideas or hope stories?? Were praying and crossing our fingers~!

Hi,just got the news that our beautiful dobie of 8yrs has got that dreaded heart problem too, shes been quite a sickly dog over the years with one thing and another, and had to have an abdominal scan on her liver, thet detected an enlarged heart but no symptoms of dhf such as cough etc so is in preclinical stage, they put her on 1.5 tabs twice a day of vetmedin chewable which she readilly takes no problem at all, these tabs have good reviews and should delay the onset of heart failure by 9mnths,were both keeping everything crossed that our lil girl will be ok,your not alone in your worries our Dogs are our extended family, couldnt think of any dog more worthy than the dear old doberman…you are doing all you can for your dobie,my prayers go out for you at this awful time..🐾

My little 4lb Maltese has the same thing. She started coughing bad, gave her some cough syrup which didn’t help. Took her to Vet, after xrays found out she had enlarge heart and some fluid with some air in her tummy (from coughing so much taking in breaths).

She has been on ENALAPRIL (Pill) and FUROSEMIDE (Liquid/compounded) every 12 hrs. Her coughing has stopped but she will be on indefinitely. She is 10 yrs old so I know her time is limited. She is a rescue and I love her dearly.

She has since had a severe UTI with no symptoms just one morning woke to blood everywhere and her staying on wee pad. I have a Shih Tzu who has an autoimmune disease and is on steroids indefinitely and three others who are healthy so far. All in the same age group.

Just love your baby and enjoy every moment you have.

We have a Chihuahua/terrier who is 15 yrs old. She was also coughing & having a lot of backward sneezing going. After taking her to the vet, we discovered she has a heart murmur & fluid on the lungs. She was put on Vetmedin to speed up her heartbeat & Furosemide for the fluid on her lungs. The Furosemide makes her pee more often but that is what gets rid of the fluid. She is doing fine today & she is back to her old self.

Can you pls share w me how hes doin now? Your story is exactly verbatim of ours. Except that at the 2 wk mark we got 2 more wks worth of medince. We r now at the end of the 1mo treatment & his coughing, wheezing & not being able to breathe well. We r very scared what this probably means. Ty
