Help needed to train deaf Aussie from attacking my cats.

I also have a deaf aussie rescue. When I adopted him he was like a wild animal. So full of energy with no control. I hired a trainer and worked hard on obedience. I also have 3 cats and at first his play was predatory but the more he became part of our family the more he learned to play. One thing about aussie is they need a job. They are not couch potatoes and if you aren’t willing to be physically active, very active, like walk 10 miles a day and Frisbee for hours, an aussie will be a problem. My deaf aussie runs agility and thankfully akc recently started letting deaf dogs compete. He trains 3 days a week and competes most weekends. Agility teaches them control and team work. My dog also does herding with ducks and sheep. Having an aussie is like raising a child with adhd but no meds allowed. They are smart as a whip, full of energy and love, and the best friend you will ever have. Good luck and remember if it doesn’t work out you can rehome him….there are plenty of people out there that love the breed and are willing to adopt a dog with issues.

Sounds like you have a generous and big heart! I have a mini Aussie. I would suggested getting in touch with a good trainer. In the Denver, CO area is Rocky Mountain Dog Training. She is amazing and even if you just contacted her, she could give you tips or suggest trainers in your area. Be patient and keep your heart open!
