Hi! I’m Butch Cassidy! I have a page on Facebook where I share senior dogs and cats needing homes in southeast Michigan. I want to tell you my story so you know that senior dogs and cats can be great members of your family! Some of them can be picker than I am, and some have even more medical issues than I do. But, you know what? We will still love you just as much as any young’un can!

Not much bothers me, and it doesn’t take much to make me happy. A little bit of walking and a whole lot of sniffing, just being out and about in the neighborhood. A comfy bed with a rug or blanket that I can scrunch up to my satisfaction before taking a snooze. Pets and ear-noogies from my people. I know how to behave in the house. I’m nice to other dogs. I am a GentleDog. I’m a mellow fellow. I’m a happy dude. I abide, just like that other Dude.

I think I’m about 12 years old. Yeah, that sounds about right. Could be more – time gets funny when you’ve been through a lot of it. I used to have a different human, but he started feeling sick all the time, and couldn’t help me up the stairs anymore, and I couldn’t go up stairs on my own because I started feeling not so good myself. My joints and bones hurt, all the time. So I got stuck in the basement, for quite a while. Maybe 2 years. Maybe more. Like I said, time gets funny when you’ve lived through as much of it as I have.

But then MyDogMom came and brought me to her house, where I have a big yard to sniff and lots of comfy rugs and beds. She gives me some medicine, and I don’t hurt as much anymore. I still hurt a little, and I still can’t go up stairs, ‘cause my back legs don’t work right anymore. So I mostly stay in a back room that opens directly out in to the yard, where there are NO stairs! I love that! I also love that all the doors open! That is so cool! I haven’t had that for a long time! So I sometimes make a couple of trips around the circle of doors just to see them open! Out from the back room into the yard through the door that opens! Into the garage from the yard through the door that opens! Into the back room from the garage through the door that opens! And again!! My DogMom just laughs and laughs when I do that, and says there are worse things in life than being a dog’s doorperson.

So, like I said, I’m easy to please, and I know how to behave. A lot of senior dogs and cats are like that. We just want a warm place to lay our heads, and a loving human to take care of us for whatever time we have left. I already have all that, but lots of other senior dogs and cats don’t. So I decided to spend my golden years finding people to love those seniors still needing homes.
