please help with grooming as im a new owner

I liked the undercoat rake and used a method called back brushing. Begin at bottom or rear of dog and separate fur in small sections by pulling up or forward with hand. Brush downward or back, away from hand. Continue in small sections over whole body. A lot of work but worth it. I had a woollie Mal so I really had to get in there. Thankfully my Mal loved being brushed; I started her at a young age. I also found it helpful to blow out some of the undercoat with a dog dryer before brushing or bathing. Helps to blow out loose fur. I brushed my Mal at least 3 times a week. In my experience Woollies are a bit different than standard coat Mals. They tend not to shed as much but have to be brushed a lot or sores will form under any matting. Above anything, try to make it fun but also be firm. A little obedience doesnt hurt either. This went a long way with a 160 lb. Mal! Notice that Ive used past tense throughout this post. I miss my Mal, Cheekah. She was my first, my only, my last. If I can pass anything on that will make life with a Mal easier, I will. A lot of people have no idea what theyre getting into and wind up giving them up, deserting them or worse. Mals are a special breed. Its nice to see someone asking questions that involve their dogs health.
