We need some advice. Our little yorkie was attacked by two huskies last week. Luckily he only sustained a gash on his muzzle and scratches to his head and chin. He was just sitting at my right foot and the attacking dogs were not in control of the owner. We never saw it coming. Anyway, now he is really scared outside (as I would be) and doesn’t like his head touched. He is also jumpy in the house if he hears something that is strange. We are trying to get him back to normal (fingers crossed), by taking him everywhere and exposing him slowly to other dogs he knows and different sounds and sights. Has anyone had to go through this and does anyone have any suggestions?

Same problem with my Aussie; PTSD after a dog attack. So…
I taught her the “Touch” game. Everytime I say “Touch” and hold out my closed hand there is a best ever wonderful treat in it. If she touches it with her nose she gets the treat (and praise).
I then used it when she acted worried around another dog. Starts to get worried, “Touch”, and she changes thinking to wanting that treat. Rushes to me for treat. Then I divert from the worrisome thing. Outdoors means “Touch” game. Dogs out the window mean “Touch” game. Works here.
Hope it helps you… SueAttachments:

My dog was beaten up by his prior owner. fractured jaw in two places and broke some teeth and knocked out some others. No one can groom him about the face and vets have to restrain and sedate him to examine him. He will now let people touch his face but he can tell their intentions. It took years of love and patience to get this far with him. He even bit me once when I tried to trim his facial hair. I do not think Kenji will ever get over it. My job is to understand and make sure I have a groomer who can manage him (I found one after a few years) and the vets know his history. Everyone actually loves Kenji, but he will turn on anyone who messes with his face and mouth area.
