We have two beautiful Dobermans, one 8 and one 6. We have had them from when we lived on a 6 acre property with plenty of room to run around. We thought there was no need to take them to puppy school and to walk them because they had plenty of exercise running around the property and didn’t come into contact with other dogs.
Through circumstances, we have now moved to a residential property. We tried to take them to a fenced dog area where other dogs were but we didn’t even get inside the fence. As soon as another dog came to enter, our dogs barked aggressively at them. We just put them in the car and came home. They have had no experience with other dogs. Where we live now there are two little poodle type dogs next door. If they start barking then ours react, but both us and the neighbours are understanding and we hope that one day they will get used to one another.
We also have another issue. My husband has retired and I am semi retired, so we spend a lot of time at home. They have become used to this and when we both go out, they howl. We think they have separation anxiety. We have seem information on giving them hemp based CBD oil to calm them.
Any comments about either of these issues would be helpful.

Your dogs haven’t been socialized with other dogs when they were puppies. So they are simply not used to being around other dogs. They don’t know how to behave, so they bark. You need to slowly introduce them to other dogs. The dog park might be a bit overwhelming right now. Maybe you can get together with your neighbor and let your dogs and the poodles get to know each other? Make sure to do this on neutral ground.

The same is true for the problem with staying home alone. The dogs are not used to this. You need to do it slowly. Leave the house and return after a couple of minutes (only enter the house if the dogs are quite). Slowly extend the length of your leave. Crate training can also help with this, if you are comfortable with that.
