Two Friends Open An Innovative “Doggie Health Hub” Together

| Published on June 4, 2021

Most dogs don’t exactly enjoy their visits to the groomer. A new more holistic approach or “healing grooming” may help soothe some of their anxieties. At least, that’s the idea behind Groucho’s in the northeastern U.K.

Friends Paula Goodrick and Jennifer Robb partnered on an exciting new dog health and hygiene venture. The two run Groucho’s, an unconventional grooming salon and “doggie health hub.” Their goal is to work with nature to offer an all-around dog health treatment facility.

Goodrick told The Scarborough Times what inspired the creation of their business:

“The idea came about as [Robb] asked for my help with a particularly difficult behavioral issue with a German Shepherd. I am a qualified dog trainer and complementary therapist so we dealt with the issue and desensitized the dog with success and the idea for the whole holistic business was born.”

The Future Of Holistic Canine Healthcare

Groucho’s isn’t just your typical grooming or health center. They offer a wide variety of services, including grooming; styling and fur dying; massage and pain management; and ultrasonic teeth cleaning. Groucho’s also offers behavior modification through a combination of herbal, aromatherapy, and flower essence; reiki (a Japanese form of energy healing), and music therapy.

Skeptics will be pleased to hear these methods have already helped dogs and their owners too.

Positive Responses

The Health Hub received many happy responses from clients and hopeful clients. Goodrick shared:

“The initial response from people has been outstanding! It’s like they have been waiting for it to happen and as soon as they know the services are offered they are making bookings.”

For example: Jess, an anxious dog who exhibited fear-based reactive behavior and suffered arthritic pain, visited Groucho’s in October. The team worked with Jess for several months, helping her go from muzzled, reactive, and anxious to “a big old softie.”

In a very positive testimonial, Jess’ mom described their success:

“The team at Groucho’s have been fabulous with my nervous and older dog. They have been kind and very patient with her. She is now very happy and relaxed to be groomed whereas before she got very upset. Thank you!”

With this response and a true belief in healing therapy grooming, the team of friends hopes to make a big impact.

“Our passion and our belief is that Groucho’s is the future of canine healthcare moving forward.”
