Dog Abused In Viral Video Rescued By Houston SPCA

| Published on October 23, 2020

Just days ago, a puppy named Max was in the spotlight as a horrific video went viral. In the video, Max can be seen getting kicked and punched while an onlooker films and others laugh. The video of the attack, which shows Max whimpering and attempting to save himself, may be difficult for some dog-lovers to bear.

Thankfully, a kind member of the community found Max after the attack. She kept him safe and cared for before turning him over to the Houston SPCA.

The Cause Of The Attack

The woman who attacked Max, 20-year-old Jaymeshia Trenay Vigne, claimed she was doing so in self-defense. She said Max had jumped on her five-year-old son who had fallen to the ground, crying. During the episode, Max scratched him behind his ear. He later jumped into her vehicle. The video shows Jaymeshia trying to get him out of the vehicle.

After the video went viral, a Houston police officer reached out to Jaymeshia to hear her side of the story. Jaymeshia admitted she had assaulted the dog but only because she was upset her son had been attacked. She also wanted the dog out of her car and therefore resorted to hitting him. Jaymeshia claimed she did not know the videographer or the onlookers that were laughing while she tried to remove Max from her car.

Jaymeshia noted being particularly worried about death threats and other violent words that have been directed at her and her son since the attack. She was later arrested and charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal.

A Dog-Mom To The Rescue

The Houston SPCA held a news conference addressing the missing Max. The organization handed out fliers in a southeast Houston neighborhood and it was here that a kind dog-owner came forward with word on the lost pup. She had been caring for Max since she found him after the attack and was more than happy to hand him over to the organization knowing he would be safe.
