Katherine is active duty Navy, based out of Virginia. She’s been in service for several years and, together with her spouse, decided to commemorate the holidays and New Year by giving a shelter pet a second chance at life. Little did Katherine know that she would be inspired to save not one, but two such lives.

In December 2017 Katherine visited the Virginia Beach SPCA, where she met a pair of adult cats who had bonded during their time together in the shelter. Midnight is an ebony-furred, four-year-old cat and Lucky is also four. Lucky sustained amputation of his toe following a cancer diagnosis, but so far is cancer-free.

Katherine has the added distinction of fulfilling Pets for Patriots 1,600th and 1,601st adoptions, respectively. While each is only a number and behind every number is a life and a story, they were thrilled that this important milestone was funded through a grant, made possible by!
