A loveable Shepherd mix named Elsa can finally heal from her painful past. After waiting years for her happily ever after, she has finally found the forever family of her dreams.

Elsa is a 7-year-old rescue that spent the first five years of her life in a heartbreaking situation. She lived outdoors in a tiny kennel with minimal shelter, barely receiving any human interaction. Not only was her living situation uncomfortable, it was almost unlivable in wintertime.

When Elsa’s situation was finally reported to local animal control, she was found shivering in a tiny igloo within her kennel. The igloo did not contain any straw or bedding for warmth, and her water bowl was frozen over.

When local authorities loaded Elsa into their warm police car, she was so incredibly grateful for their help. Elsa nuzzled her head into the officer’s neck, likely experiencing warmth for the first time that freezing winter.

Understandably, Elsa was extremely nervous and untrusting of humans after living through such an abusive experience. By the time she made it into the loving care of the Pet Friends Animal Shelter, she had already experienced so much trauma.

Thankfully for Elsa, the team at the shelter was ready to offer her all the love and patience she needed to come out of her shell. The volunteers at the shelter helped her learn that not all humans are bad, and that it is actually fun to have humans that care for her around.

No matter how loved Elsa was by the team at the shelter, they couldn’t seem to find any interested adopters. They shared her story with as many animal lovers as they could, but nobody wanted to welcome Elsa into their home.

Elsa finally received her big break when she was featured on her local news station to spread awareness on her current situation. The Christmas special shared Elsa’s devastating past, and asked for anyone who could spare some room in their heart for a deserving pup.

This special was the best thing that could have happened to Elsa, as her future family was one of the many people that tuned in. After spending three holiday seasons at the Pet Friends Animal Shelter, she finally has a forever home to call her own.

“Thanks to WAETV- Pittsburgh’s Christmas Eve news story on Elsa we received many inquiries and applications for our sweet girl. After spending her 3rd Christmas with Pet Friends, Elsa will be spending the new year in her forever home. Thank you to everyone who has shared her story and a special thanks to everyone at WTAE for featuring Elsa.” – Pet Friend’s Animal Shelter

Elsa will never have to experience another cold day without love. We are so thankful for the continued care of the team at Pet Friend’s Shelter, and can’t wait to watch Elsa bloom in her forever home!
