3 Things All French Bulldog Owners Should Know

| Published on May 9, 2017

French bulldogs are one of the world’s most popular dogs and it’s no wonder – for the most part they are easy going, good in urban settings and get along with other animals and people. But they also have some “baggage” that owners and prospective owners should be aware of so that they can take the best care of their Frenchie as possible. The following are three things all French Bulldog owners should know.

#1 – They Shed Constantly

I don’t know how many times people have come to me and said, “I want a short-haired breed because I don’t want all the hair.” Well Frenchies shed – a lot. And those small, needle like hairs get everywhere. They needle into the fibers of couches, car seats, etc., and are almost impossible to get out. So, it’s something to think about if you wondering if the Frenchie is for you.

#2 – Their Wrinkles Need Care

Those adorable wrinkles by their nose mean maintenance. Bacteria can easily start to grow in them and cause infections if they are not kept clean and dry. They should be cleaned after eating and dried out when your Frenchie gets wet.

#3 – Their Necks Are Fragile

The genetic make-up that creates those cute features you love so much, is a defect that comes with some pretty serious side-effects, including neck and spine issues. French bulldogs should never be walked on a collar, but with a harness, to help lessen the risk of damage. You also should not allow them to jump up or down high surfaces – they can easily damage the discs in their spine, costing you several thousand at the vet and your dog his quality of life.
