3 Things Your Jack Russell Loves More Than Anything

| Published on April 7, 2017

Is your tenacious Jack Russell everything you could possibly want in a dog? Is he your best friend and most trusted confidante? If so, then you probably do all you can to provide him with the best life possible. You buy him the food he loves, give him plenty of treats and even good-for-him “human” foods such as fresh carrots and blueberries. You  may still be wondering if there’s even more you can do to make him as happy as he can be. The following are three things your Jack Russell Terrier probably loves more than anything – things that you can give him to enrich his life and make him happier.

#1 – Digging for “prey”

If you have a backyard, you may already know that Jack Russells love to “go to ground” for prey. You can give in to this love without ruining your garden by giving your Terrier a sandbox of his own to dig to his heart’s content. Just bury “prey” he can find, such as treats and toys, and he will be a happy camper.

#2 – Exercise

Although small, Jack Russells have the energy level of many bigger breeds. They love vigorous exercise daily. And really, it’s a necessary if you don’t want them to be destructive in your home.

#3 – “Killing” Toys

Most Terrier owners are familiar with the “death shake” and Jack Russells definitely have this skill down pat. They love to shake a stuffed toy and then when satisfied that it’s “dead,” rip all the stuffing out. You can satisfy your Terrier’s instinct with special toys that are made to rip apart and be put back together (usually they reattach with Velcro) or the ones that have smaller stuffed animals hiding in bigger ones that your JRT has to pull out. These are great toys that your Terrier will love and won’t deplete your pocket book since they can be played with over and over.
