#1 – Get His Heart Checked

Boxers are prone to several heart issues, especially arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (known as Boxer cardiomyopathy) which is usually fatal. But, you can get your dog genetically tested to see if he has this or other genes that may put him at risk for heart issues. Knowing ahead of time can help you and your vet set up a plan to keep your Boxer as healthy as possible.

#2 – Spend Time With Her

Boxers are known for being at the top end of the scale when it comes to companionship needs. They can definitely develop separation anxiety and need time with the people they love. One of the best ways to keep your Boxer happy is just to spend time with her.

#3 – Use A Slow Feeder & Feed Multiple Meals

Boxers are a breed that are prone to bloat, which has a high mortality rate. The surgery to try and repair it is expensive and does not guarantee your Boxer will be saved. While the exact cause of bloat is unknown, veterinarians agree that dogs should not eat too quickly, be given only one large meal, or exercise right after eating. These seem to increase the chance of bloat. Using a slow feeder bowl or a food toy can help. So can feeding your Boxer multiple meals, instead of just once a day. Finally, don’t go for that long run right after eating. Just like us, your Boxer needs to digest their meal first.
