A public animal shelter Odai, located in Bucharest, Romania has 650 dogs in it’s care. The shelter is massively underfunded, but couldn’t turn away the dogs because they knew they had nowhere else to go. So they kept taking them in. But the shelter doesn’t have the means to feed and properly care for that many dogs (what shelter does?), so the dogs are now starving and neglected in the place that was supposed to be saving them.

K-9 Angels , a registered charity from the United Kingdom, has stepped up to help the shelter, by raising fund and donation supplies to help care for the dogs. The charity was created to help dogs all over the world with a mission to improve the quality of existence of our canine friends worldwide as well as education people about animal welfare.

‘We have never seen dogs emaciated like this before. Their skin was grey, rough and they had no fur on them. Their bones were sticking out and they all had incredibly sad eyes. Many of them had to feed on their dead friends’ bodies to survive. We have seen really bad things before but this was another level. We knew we had to help them urgently, the suffering was just too great’ says the registered charity, K-9 Angels.

“K-9 Angels aims to raise a minimum of 30k in the next week to purchase food and medical supplies so that in partnership with Paw2Rescue and a Romanian NGO, we can help alleviate the unimaginable suffering of these dogs. We would appreciate any coverage to help raise the missing amount.”
Celebrity Help
When actor, writer and comedian Ricky Gervais heard about the shelter’s plight, he immediately stepped into action, showing his support for the cause via twitter and Facebook.
According to K-9 Angels, his tweet received over 600 retweets and donations for the fund jumped from $3,000 to $13,000 in a just a few hours.
We just love it when celebs use their power for good – Thanks to you Ricky Gervais!
More Help Is Needed
K-9 Angels is just a bit shy of their goal at the writing of this article, so if you can please donate to their fund to help these dogs.
In addition, they are asking that everyone share this story, even if you can’t help financially, to spread the word about the plight of dogs worldwide.
“People can support in many ways, not just financially but to raise awareness for this crisis where there is only one local woman attending to 650 dogs. Here in the UK we have so much help for dogs and all our animals yet we are allowing this to happen right under our noses and our charity is determined to change this desperate situation.”
