In late January 2016, a Houston Police Department (HPD) Officer noticed two emaciated German Shepherds running through the streets of downtown Houston, dodging traffic and avoiding interaction with humans. The officer worked to catch the dogs, but his efforts were futile, so he called the city shelter. After the shelter was able to get the dogs off the street, they reported they were brother and sister and from the same litter.
Although they were skittish, they became relaxed and friendly after some positive attention from shelter staff. The HPD officer who originally called the shelter adopted the male as soon as he was cleared for adoption, but the female Shepherd, named Fallon, sat for weeks in the shelter waiting for her new forever home.
Luckily, a rescue named K9 Airlift pulled Fallon from the city shelter. The rescue was able to spay Fallon and get her vaccinations taken care of, but she was still quite thin and wouldn’t eat any of the food offered her. When she did eat, she would become sick.
K9 Airlift was sent special diet food from Rescue Bank and Fallon loved it! She was able to digest her new food with no problems.
After a few weeks on her new diet, Fallon was healthy, and her energy had returned. She is now in a lovely home in Kingwood, Texas—a true rags to riches story!
When asked about the donation, K9 Airlift replied, “Rescue Bank has allowed K9 Airlift to save hundreds of rescued animals. We could not have done it without you.”
