If one thing is for certain, Yang Xiaoyun is an amazing woman. Now a retired school teacher, at the age of 65 she is still working hard. But instead of teaching, she has come out of retirement to completely dedicate her life to saving the lives of animals in need. Single-handedly, this woman has saved thousands of animals from being euthanized–or even worse, eaten in her home country of China. She’s dedicated her life to saving animals, and provided them refuge in her home. Yang believes that these animals need her, and she will do whatever she can to rescue any animal that she finds to save them from the likely possibility of death if captured.

Over the past weekend as social media went in a frenzy over the Yulin Dog Meat Eating Festival, we broke a story of Yang’s ambition to travel to the city of Yulin to rescue animals from being killed for sport–just as she had done last year. Well, after traveling 1,652 miles, she came to the rescue of 100 dogs that were on the brink of being murdered. It was reported that Yang paid $1,100 for the dogs to be released to her.

In recent years the summer solstice tradition in the city of Yulin has created intense controversy, even sparking the #StopYulin2015 campaign across all of social media in recent weeks. The world has tired of turning a blind eye to the cruelty of animals in China, and the Chinese government is certainly feeling the angry outcry from animal activists worldwide. Despite the festival continuing, Yang gave all that she could and was successfully in her efforts of saving the lives of dogs who needed her.
