Do you remember the woman, Pam Porteous, who had been badly burned in a car accident when she was a teenager? She then went on to try and save a pit bull puppy that had been doused in lighter fluid and lit on fire at a party. He didn’t make it.
“It was really difficulty because I knew what he was feeling,” explains Porteous “We tried to save him but we couldn’t. That was probably the most difficult [thing I have been through.]”
Finding that puppy turned Porteous into a decades long animal welfare warrior from the Detroit area.
She worked tirelessly as the Animal Care Network Manager in Pontiac, Michigan. She dedicated her life to preventing other dogs from having to go through what she and that little puppy endured.
A life in service does not always leave much in the way of monetary gains – though we sure know she was rich in what matters.
Porteous has passed away, and her friends are trying to raise enough money to give her a proper burial. Porteous gave everything she had, literally, to the animals and people she served in her community.
In case you missed it, here is the video about Porteous and her life of service:
Pam’s friends at the Michigan Animal Adoption Network are holding a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for the funeral: If you can, please give back to this woman who gave everything for the animals.
