Freddy the Great Dane is over 7 feet tall when standing on his hind legs. He currently holds the Guinness World Record for the tallest dog in the world. It was surprising even for his family because as a puppy, he was the runt of the litter. But now, he stands much taller than his sister, Fleur.
The giant dog’s recent birthday helped him earn another impressive title too. After turning 8 years old, Freddy was named the oldest known Great Dane in the world. His sister Fleur is only minutes younger than him.

Unfortunately, Guinness World Records doesn’t keep track of dog ages for specific breeds. However, they confirmed that Freddy is still the world’s tallest dog. Besides, he doesn’t need an award to feel good about his new achievement.
Claire Stonemen, Freddy’s mom, threw a special birthday celebration for Freddy and Fleur. It was a small gathering due to the coronavirus, but Freddy’s best friend was able to attend: their 7-year-old neighbor named Erin Manley. Erin has known Freddy her whole life, so she’s not intimidated by his large size.
“Freddy and Fleur had a great birthday party and they both had the best time,” said Stoneman. “We decorated the garden and they got loads of their favorite treats and cuddly toys.”

Erin was extremely happy to see Freddy again. She hadn’t been able to visit as much lately due to the pandemic, so she made up for that with extra cuddles. It was definitely a birthday party that the two big dogs will never forget.
Caring for Such a Large Dog
It takes a lot of work to keep Freddy and Fleur happy and healthy, and Stoneman spares no expense. She knows that Great Danes don’t live as long as other breeds, so she makes sure to give them the best life possible.
Food and treats for Freddy cost approximately $630 a month. It consists of kibble, treats, and even some minced beef and roast chicken. Also, Stoneman always walks the two dogs early in the morning so she doesn’t scare anyone. The size of Freddy and Fleur is often intimidating to people who have never met them.
“Despite their size, they’re very kind-natured and put their paws on you if they know you’re upset,” said Stoneman. “They love cuddling and I sleep with them on two mattresses in the living room at night.”
Freddy has had so many accomplishments in his life so far. Hopefully, his long life as a record-holder is just getting started though. Happy birthday, Freddy and Fleur!
