Recently, rookie K9 officer Kai, a highly skilled bloodhound, proved her worth by helping apprehend a robbery suspect for the very first time, earning herself a delicious reward – a cheeseburger from the famous fast-food chain In-N-Out.

The thrilling moment began when Officer Naghaway, Kai’s handler from the Hawthorne Police Department, was called to assist with a high-priority case. A robbery suspect, wanted by the Culver City Police Department, had been involved in a vehicle pursuit that took a sudden turn. After fleeing from law enforcement, the suspect ditched their vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. The situation quickly escalated, prompting responding officers to set up a perimeter in the area. That’s when Officer Naghaway and Kai were brought in to track the fleeing suspect.

Despite being relatively new to the job, Kai immediately went to work. Bloodhounds are known for their exceptional sense of smell, and Kai was no exception. With her highly trained nose to the ground, she picked up the suspect’s scent almost immediately. The pursuit led Kai and Officer Naghaway to a nearby apartment complex, where the suspect was attempting to hide. Kai’s persistent tracking abilities left no room for error, and within moments, the suspect realized that their hiding place was no match for the relentless bloodhound. The suspect quickly surrendered, bringing the intense search to an end.
