Despite their low energy, they’ve got iron wills and a strong sense of independence. Their adorable wrinkles and lazy charm might soften your heart, but they’ll still win the battle of wills nine times out of ten. With Bulldogs, it’s not disobedience, it’s a firm negotiation.

Shiba Inus are known for their fox-like looks and their fierce independence. Training one can feel like trying to teach a cat to fetch. They might do it, but only if it’s their idea. Shibas often have selective hearing and will ignore you entirely when it suits them. That said, their loyalty and confidence are part of what makes them such captivating companions. Just don’t expect blind obedience.

Dachshunds were bred to chase badgers underground, so it’s no surprise they’re fearless and opinionated. These little dogs have big attitudes and are not easily swayed once their minds are made up. They’ll often do the exact opposite of what you ask, just to make a point. Training takes extra patience and a good sense of humor. Their stubbornness is rivaled only by their charm.
Siberian Husky

Huskies are smart, energetic, and incredibly stubborn when they want to be. They love to talk back, question authority, and ignore commands when a squirrel runs by. Their dramatic howls and expressive eyes make it clear they’ve got thoughts of their own. Huskies need lots of mental and physical stimulation or they’ll make their own fun, usually at your expense. Life with a Husky is loud, messy, and hilarious.
Beagle

Beagles follow their noses more than your voice, which often means they’re halfway down the block before you finish calling them. These scent hounds are driven by instincts, which makes them persistent and hard to redirect. Beagles are sweet and gentle, but will absolutely ignore you when they’re on a scent trail. You’ll need extra patience and creativity during training. Luckily, their floppy ears and puppy eyes help smooth things over.
Jack Russell Terrier

Jack Russells are packed with energy, smarts, and attitude. They’re brave and bold, but also famously hard-headed. Once they decide something is worth their attention, they’ll ignore the rest of the world. These dogs thrive on action, so if you try to slow them down, you’re in for a stubborn protest. Training a Jack Russell is like outwitting a furry little rocket.

Afghan Hounds look like high-fashion models, and they act like divas, too. These dogs know they’re beautiful and often behave like royalty. They’re independent thinkers and will rarely obey commands unless there’s something in it for them. While affectionate in their own time, they’re not eager to follow orders just to please. Scottish Terriers, or Scotties, are bold little dogs with strong opinions. They were bred to hunt independently, and that trait lives on in their determined personalities. Scotties aren’t aggressive, but they definitely like to be in charge. They respond best to firm yet gentle training and may pretend not to hear you when they don’t feel like cooperating. Expect sass in a small, bearded package.

They may look like lap dogs, but they have no problem ignoring your requests if they see no reason to follow them. These little dogs have a mind of their own and aren’t easily persuaded.
