Eliza, a spirited dog residing at City of San Bernardino Animal Services, has made it clear she’s ready for a new chapter. Since arriving at the shelter a few weeks ago, she has been longing for the warmth of a family and the freedom to run and play outside. For Eliza, the kennel life isn’t where she belongs, and she’s determined to make her feelings known. The staff and volunteers at the shelter share her dream of finding her a forever home, and her efforts to capture attention have only added to her charm.
Alice Chow, a regular visitor and photographer at the shelter, has a knack for identifying dogs with special personalities, and Eliza immediately stood out. “Eliza couldn’t stop wagging her tail and whining to get my attention,” Chow shared with The Dodo. “She made sure I saw her. She wanted so much love from me.”
Eliza’s determination to connect was on full display as she stuck her nose through the bent bars of her kennel, wagging her tail and trying to get as close as possible to Chow. The sight melted Chow’s heart. “The only clear photos I was able to get were of her sticking her head through the broken kennel gates so she could get closer to me,” Chow explained.
It seemed that Eliza had been trying to escape her kennel, not out of mischief but out of a desire to play and be loved on her own terms. Chow was so moved by Eliza’s playful, affectionate energy that she shared the photos with her friend Lois Chisholm. Chisholm then posted about Eliza on Facebook, hoping to catch the eye of someone who could give her the loving home she deserves.
“[She has a] very puppyish, playful spirit,” Chisholm wrote in her post. She included details about how to adopt Eliza and urged potential adopters to reach out. Now, the shelter staff, along with Chow and Chisholm, are waiting with hope that Eliza’s perfect match will come forward soon.
Eliza’s playful and loving nature shines brightly despite her circumstances, and everyone rooting for her knows that it’s only a matter of time before she finds the family she’s been waiting for.
Shockingly, this is not the first time she has faced animal cruelty charges; she has a past conviction for similar crimes. We must ensure that no more animals suffer or die in her care!
