Why This Recall Matters

Salmonella can cause illness in dogs that consume a contaminated product, but the risk does not end with the pet. People can potentially be exposed by handling contaminated supplements, touching surfaces that have come into contact with them, or coming into contact with waste from a dog that consumed a contaminated product.

Dogs with Salmonella infections may experience lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite, or abdominal pain. Some infected dogs may otherwise appear healthy but can still carry the bacteria and potentially expose other animals or people.

In people, Salmonella infection can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, more serious complications can occur.

Anyone who develops symptoms after handling a recalled product should contact their healthcare provider. Pet parents should contact their veterinarian if their dog consumed one of the recalled supplements and develops symptoms.

What Pet Parents Should Do

Consumers who purchased either affected lot should stop using the supplement immediately. Fi instructs consumers to make sure the container is tightly sealed and dispose of it in the trash.

Because Salmonella can spread beyond the product itself, wash your hands thoroughly after handling the supplement or its container. It is also a good idea to clean surfaces and items that may have come into contact with the recalled product.

Monitor dogs that consumed an affected supplement for signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, fever, lethargy, decreased appetite, or abdominal pain. Contact your veterinarian if symptoms develop.
