A dog named Pixie was in such poor condition that it was distressing to see her. The staff at Wyandotte Animal Shelter (WAS) in Wyandotte, Michigan, realized they needed to act quickly to prevent further deterioration of her health. The transformation that followed was nothing short of remarkable, showcasing Pixie’s true beauty. Initially, Pixie was surrendered to the shelter by her owner, who could no longer care for her. “He had a hard time letting her go but surrendered her to us so we could ensure she would go to someone who could give her the life she deserved,” the shelter expressed in a Facebook post. The owner made the difficult decision with Pixie’s best interests in mind, trusting the shelter with her future.

Recognizing the severity of her condition, which was one of the worst cases of overgrown fur they had encountered, the shelter quickly arranged for an emergency grooming session. They reached out to The Downriver Grooming Co., a highly regarded grooming salon also located in Wyandotte. The salon responded promptly, and Pixie’s extensive grooming session lasted three hours.

Following this emergency makeover, Pixie was transformed. “This little girl was only 5.5 pounds, but she seemed twice her size due to the matted fur,” the shelter detailed. Remarkably, despite appearances, she was in perfect health post-grooming.

The shelter also acknowledged the support of Pound Pals Downriver, a non-profit organization that contributed funding for Pixie’s medical evaluation and care. “We would also like to thank Pound Pals Downriver, for once again stepping in and providing funding for a medical evaluation and care,” they added in their post.

The most joyous moment for Pixie arrived shortly after these positive developments. With the combined efforts of everyone involved in her recovery, she was given a new lease on life and soon found her forever home. This happy ending was well-deserved for Pixie, who had endured much suffering in her previously neglected state. Pixie’s before and after photos are astounding! We are over the moon for Pixie and her new family.
