In early September, some Victor Pet Food products were voluntarily recalled after testing positive for Salmonella. Now, just under two months later, the company is issuing another recall for a similar concern.
Salmonella is a common reason for pet food recalls, but it shouldn’t be taken lightly because the affected food could make both pets and humans sick. So, if you feed Victor to your pets, check to make sure your product isn’t one of the recalled bags.
Which Products Were Recalled?
Mid America Pet Food of Mount Pleasant, Texas, voluntarily recalled certain lots of Victor Super Premium Dog Food Select Beef Meal & Brown Rice Formula. The company issued the recall after random third-party testing found that some of the food tested positive for Salmonella.

These products were sent to a variety of distributors and retailers across the United States. You can find the lot code information on the back of the bag. No other products have been affected by this recall and luckily, no illnesses have been reported.
Dangers of Salmonella
Dog food testing positive for Salmonella can harm both pets and humans. Pets infected with Salmonella could experience diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, and fever. However, some pets can carry Salmonella without showing symptoms, which could lead to them passing it on to other family members. If your dog has consumed the recalled product, you may want to contact your vet just to be safe.
Salmonella in humans can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, it could lead to more severe issues like arterial infections, arthritis, endocarditis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract problems. If you came into contact with a recalled product, keep an eye out for unusual symptoms and contact your healthcare provider if concerns arise.
What to Do with the Recalled Food
Retailers and distributors have been asked to immediately stop selling the recalled food. However, if you purchased one of these bags before the recall, you should dispose of the food in a way that’s out of reach from pets, humans, and wildlife. Never donate or sell recalled food.
Then, clean any surfaces that the food could’ve touched, such as counters, bowls, and storage containers. Always wash your hands thoroughly after coming into contact with the food.
