Smile was rescued from a hoarding situation. She was one of over two dozen dogs crammed into a house in Tijuana, Mexico. The poor girl was also pregnant and riddled with mange. A foundation that works with rescue groups in Mexico arranged to get Smile into the states. Now she needed the perfect foster!

Stephanie’s daughter begged the seasoned foster mom to take in another pregnant pup. Stephanie agreed and took in Smile. But when the foster mom met the pup, she knew there was no way Smile was pregnant. She was supposedly due in two weeks, yet was rail thin due to malnourishment. Stephanie’s vet later explained that dogs have the ability to protect their own bodies when in serious distress and absorb a pregnancy. And that’s exactly what happened.

Although the dog naturally had this adorable smile, she hid a painful past. Stephanie even says Smile was so afraid to blink in case of sudden movements that her eyes would well up with tears. But as time went on, Smile let her walls down and separation anxiety kicked in. The poor pup didn’t trust being alone, even for a quick trip to the bathroom. If Stephanie wasn’t right next to her, she wouldn’t budge, not even to eat.

And then, everything changed! Smile’s confidence grew and Stephanie knows it’s only a matter of time before Smile will go to her forever home. Stephanie’s love for Smile is immeasurable. She explains that she will be the hardest foster dog to part with. To see Smile’s complete story, check out the video by GeoBeats below!
