Geary Animal Shelter in Junction City, Kansas, was a rural animal shelter that just needed a little help with building maintenance. Typically, rural shelters have fewer donations due to location, so whatever money comes in, they spent on the animals.

With volunteers from the local community and a local U.S. Army Base, Rescue Rebuild was able to make a substantial difference in only one day!

Their perimeter fencing and gates needed a lot of work. There were a number of holes throughout the fencing and gates. Most holes were big enough that puppies and even middle-sized dogs could escape.

The solution? 500’ of new chain-link fencing to repair both the perimeter fencing and gates! Three other kennels were built to help with overcrowding. Hours and hours were spent painting the inside of the shelter as well as a special epoxy to coat the kennel floors making it safe for the dogs to walk on. They topped off the project with beautiful gardening around the facility, giving it excellent curb-appeal and making it ever-inviting for adopters.

So much was accomplished with the help of many dedicated volunteers, making this one-day build very successful. Rescue Rebuild didn’t let the one-day timeline affect their vision and success. Even with such little time, you can make a huge difference!
