The 10 Best Winter Coats To Keep Your Dog Warm This Winter

| Published on January 17, 2016

While not all dogs need coats – your Husky is loving this cold weather – some dogs have short hair and/or thin skin, making them susceptible to the cold, just like you. If you own a dog that gets chilly, the following brands make some amazing winter dog coats that will keep your pup toasty warm.

#1 – Weatherbeeta

The Weatherbeeta brand is well-known in the equestrian crowd as having some of the best blankets for horses available. They also make amazing dog coats! They have a full range of styles, depending on your climate. Many are waterproof and several have large belly bands to keep that tender and exposed belly toasty. The one pictured is their Weatherbeeta 1200D parka with a belly wrap. It is waterproof, breathable and durable (with strong 1200 denier triple weave outer layer), lined with 220g of polyfill and a full wrap chest and belly closure. See their complete line at weaterbeeta.com

The one pictured is their “Powder Hound” – a hybrid jacket that offers the warmth of synthetic insulation with the range of motion of technical stretch fabric. It’s weather resistant and zips on/off. #4 –  Alpine Outfitters

Since 1988, Alpine has been outfitting working dogs, including sled dog teams, so they know cold. Their jacket is made of Therma Stretch Polartec – slick on the outside so snow doesn’t stick, fleece inside for added warmth, and windproof and water resistant to help prevent frostbite. The jacket is designed so dogs can run, and made to fit a harness underneath the jacket. Check it out at alpineoutiffters.net.

These coats are hand-crafted, custom made dog coats from Wisconsin, USA. Susan Couzin, the owner, can make a coat to fit any dog! Their signature coat, the Snow Angel, is made of a waterproof and breathable material and a PolarTec fleece lining – four times more wind resistance than standard polar fleece. What makes them unique is they have a layer in-between those two that is made of 8.5-ounce quilt batting. This makes a big difference in cutting through wind-chill.
