Transport Gives Strays Found On Farm A Second Chance

| Published on December 18, 2019

iHeartDogs works closely with GreaterGood by donating part of each sale to their various charity efforts. One of these organizations, Animal Lifeline, provides transport for dogs in risky situations to second chances elsewhere.  Thanks to customers like you, Animal Lifeline is able to make a difference for many dogs in need! Amos and Andy are just two of those dogs.

On a rural farm in Tennessee, two skinny and malnourished sibling pups (now named Amos and Andy) were caught chasing the farm animals. The farmer wanted absolutely nothing to do with the dogs he saw as a danger to his own animals. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan asked about them, saving them from potentially being put down.

A non-profit called Animal Lifeline gave these pups a new lease on life. Animal Lifeline was originally established in 2006 as a way to provide spay and neuter assistance to homeless animals and low income families in the Bucks County, Pennsylvania area. 11 years later, they expanded to include a transport division.

Now, a team of transport volunteers spends many days every month behind the wheel, providing free rides for homeless or at-risk animals to shelters and rescues with space. That’s one incredible way a local rescue organization can make a difference outside their community too.

“Animal Lifeline Mission Statement: To develop humane solutions for at risk pets in communities through education, disaster mitigation, adoption and rescue support, transport assistance, food and supply assistance, and financial and in-kind support.”

Even though the first year or so of their lives weren’t easy, Amos and Andy hitched a ride away with Animal Lifeline to Pennsylvania. Shortly thereafter, both found their forever homes.

What Is The Second Chance Movement?

Some places are far more equipped to handle larger populations of stray dogs than others. They have more shelter space and more resources. Other dogs who have plenty of years of love to give find themselves at a disadvantage simply due to where they live. That’s where Animal Lifeline and other transports step in.

Second Chance Movement™ partners with GreaterGood.org to donate travel miles for every product in the Second Chance Movement™ collection on iHeartDogs.com to charities that facilitate the transportation of adoptable pets from areas of low-demand to areas of high-demand. That means dogs like Amos and Andy, who could have been euthanized if not rescued in time and brought to Pennsylvania.

Donations to Animal Lifeline and other charities providing air and ground transport from shelters come in the form of grants from GreaterGood.org.

“Because of the grant given to us by GreaterGood.org, Amos and his brother Andy were able to catch a Ride to Rescue and have now both been adopted into homes where they will be forever loved and cherished as all pets deserve.”
