Monday, September 29th 2014 – Bravo Pet Foods has announced a recall of select lots of Turkey and Chicken pet foods for dogs and cats due to possible contamination with Salmonella. For the exact lot information, please see the list and image at the bottom of this post.
These products we’re distributed nationwide beginning in November of 2013. The products we’re sold in both retail stores and online stores.
Although pets can also become affected by Salmonella, the primary risk is to humans who come in contact with the infected food. A healthy individual who comes in contact with Salmonella could experience any of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (often with blood), abdominal cramping, and fever.
Dogs or cats with Salmonella infections may become lethargic and have diarrhea (often with blood), vomiting, and fever. Some pets may also have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Its important to note that an infected pet may show NO signs of illness, but can carry to disease to other pets and or humans.
As a side note, we at The I Love Dogs Site appreciates the transparency through which Bravo! has shown regarding this recall. The company proactively reached out to us with this information before most news sources were aware.
