Dog Food Advisor has been busy the past two months reporting Salmonella concerns, and the list of recalled products just got longer. Raw Basics from Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin announced Tuesday a voluntary recall of the product labeled “Tucker’s Pork-Bison Formula” due to potential Salmonella contamination. The company joins the ranks of recently recalled Steve’s Real Food, Northwest Naturals, Raws for Paws, and Smokehouse Pet Products.

No illnesses have been reported, but the Nebraska Department of Agriculture notified Raw Basics of positive Salmonella findings after a routine test. The potential for contamination is reported to be isolated to one lot of products (108 boxes) distributed in Minnesota, Georgia, Kansas, and Pennsylvania.

The specific product being recalled is the five-pound box of “Tucker’s Pork-Bison Formula with the lot code 27717 and best by date of 4/17/19.

Dog Food Advisor warns,

“Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products”

Pet owners are encouraged to check their dog food supplies for the affected product. Everyone with a box of the recalled dog food can return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. For questions and concerns, call Raw Basics at 800-219-3650.
