When you purchase products from the iHeartDogs store, a portion of that sale is donated to Greater Good. One of Greater Good’s charities is a shelter renovation program called Rescue Rebuild. Rescue Rebuild works on various projects to help improve the lives of animals and their human families. Thanks to customers like you, Rescue Rebuild is able to make a difference for lots of dogs in need.

Recently, Greater Good has partnered with RedRover to work on a domestic violence shelter in Maine. The sad reality is that less than 5% of domestic violence shelters accept dogs, so about 47% of domestic violence victims delay leaving their abuser because they don’t want to leave their furry friend behind.

This project is designed to make spaces more dog-friendly for families in a crisis. Nobody should have to stay in a bad situation just because their dog is not welcome somewhere. Our dogs should be able to be by our sides through every stage of our lives.

In just over a week, volunteers were able to make significant renovations to a shelter both inside and outside. The results are incredible!

What Was Renovated?

The volunteers worked specifically on three different rooms, which had a total of 8 beds available. They added new flooring and repainted the walls.

They made sure to include plenty of amenities specifically for dogs. At the shelter, there will be various sized dog crates available as needed. Having multiple dogs in one room can take up a lot of space, so they also created a basement area for dogs to hang out if extra space is needed.

There is also an outdoor area for dogs to use the bathroom with up to 50 feet of fencing and poop bags available. The team even installed a special sink so that the residents can bathe their dogs as needed since keeping your dog clean is an important part of keeping them healthy.

The team was able to make space for 8 women and their furry friends. Thanks to these amazing volunteers, more people and their dogs will be brought to safety. With the help of donations, Greater Good will continue to help more families in the future as well.

Thanks to the purchases from the iHeartDogs store, renovations like this can be made to help many people and dogs in need. iHeartDogs sells a variety of amazing products both for you and your furry friend, and every purchase can help a dog in need. So, thank you to all the amazing people that have purchased items to help with life-changing projects like this!
