10 Things Only German Shepherd Dog Owners Understand

| June 4, 2015

German Shepherd Dogs (GSD) are one of the most recognizable breeds, thanks to their use as police dogs and the Rin-Tin-Tin series. But owning a shepherd means you are privy to things only those who share their home with this noble breed could possibly understand. Have others to add? Tell us in the comments section below!

#1 – You have to add the word “dog” when referring to your breed so people don’t think you are talking about a German shepherd person.

#2 – There is no such thing as “alone time” when a GSD is in the house.

#3 – Strangers assume your dog is either a police dog or a service dog because of his breed.

#4 – A sick day? Not on your dog’s watch – exercise is mandatory.

#5 – The feeling of a nose at the back of your knee as he herds you toward the food bowl.

#6 – Chewing is just part of life.

#7 – You will never have a more loyal friend.

#8 – Nose prints on glass are an under-rated art.

#9 – You no longer receive solicitors, packages at the door—they get left at the gate—or Girl Scout cookies. Regardless of how many times you have told everyone your dog is friendly.

#10 – You spend more money on your dog’s training than you did your college education – they are that smart.
