15 Joys Only Dog People Really Understand

| April 10, 2015

We all have that family member or friend who just doesn’t understand the bond we share with our dogs. In honor of Pet Owners Day (April 19), here are 15 small joys that only us “dog people” understand and appreciate.

#1 – A wagging tail

There is just something about a dog’s tail wagging that can make any bad day just a bit better.

#3 – Walking buddy

Walking alone can be boring and even scary. But having a dog can turn a walk into a joyful outing – you can’t help but catch his excitement at being out and about.

#4 – The joy of fetch

There is something about playing fetch after a stressful day that just helps you relax. A non-dog person will never understand.

#5 – Therapeutic dog kisses

Nothing can console a soul like a dog. You can be crying into your pillow and that soft warm body with a cold nose comes up and licks your tears away. Nothing a person could have said would have been as therapeutic as those licks.

#6 – Best alarm clock ever

There is nothing better than being woken up by a wagging tail and your dog’s kisses. How can you wake up in a bad mood?

#7 – Never having to eat alone

Dog owners are lucky – they always have someone to eat with. Whether it’s a Friday night in or just a trip to the local café, it’s a simply joy to know your best bud is always available to tag along.

Ever watched your dog sleep? For some reason it just lifts the spirit to watch them twitch, grunt, and even bark while deep asleep.

There is a definite joy in knowing you have saved a life and that you are now providing that life with things (love, good food, care, play, etc.) that has been denied previously. This might be the greatest joy of all.

#15 –The world’s best listener

Had a bad day? He will listen and not be too caught up in his own problems to console you with his head on your lap or a game of fetch. Face it, dogs are much better at the “how was your day?” than humans.
