We love spoiling our pets! Be it with treats, pats, or snuggle time, there’s few things more rewarding for both human and dog than showering affection on your buddy. They love it. We love it. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Buying your dog new toys is a big part of that, and it’s a good idea to give new toys regularly. It’s more than just “spoiling” your dog – there are very real benefits to bringing home new toys for him.

1. Old Toys Can Be Dangerous

No toy was made to last forever, and some dogs go through their playthings faster than others. Many toys come in different sizes to allow different breeds to chew without the risk of choking, because dogs play and explore with their mouths. When toys weaken, start to wear, buckle and then break, they become a choking hazard. Giving your dog new toys to play with from time to time will let him divide his attention, prolonging the life of his tougher toys and replacing the ones that have met their end.

2. Changing Things Up Keeps Your Dog Stimulated

According to Dr. Kathryn Primm DVM, exercise is important for keeping dogs moving well, and playtime is a big part of that. “Puzzle toys are great at stimulating the mind and rewarding thought and exercise… Devise games that are new and different.” After time, doing the same puzzle or playing the same game over and over stops being challenging, and then it’s time to introduce a new challenge. Dr. Primm says, “Your dog’s mind must be kept active. Find activities that are new and different.” Buying a new toy about once a month will keep your dog’s body and mind sharp.

3. Show Your Dog Some Love

No kind gesture or sweet moment is ever wasted on your dog, and no one appreciates your time and affection more. Some rewards, like treats, pets and kisses are given daily – but sometimes it’s nice to give a special reward. A new toy is an easy way to say ‘I love you,’ and something your dog doesn’t get every day. Your treats and attention are just as wonderful, but it’s a great way to shake things up.
