3 Ways To Keep Your Boston Terrier Happy & Healthy

| December 27, 2016

Your Boston Terrier gives you everything. It’s only natural that you want to make sure you are giving her the best life possible. When it comes to dog care, there is of course all the necessities – vet visits, good food, fresh water, shelter – but there are other things that your Boston needs that can go a long way to giving her a fulfilling life. The following are three ways to keep your Boston Terrier happy and healthy.

#1 – Provide Exercise

Boston Terriers are prone to luxating patellas and spine issues associated with their flat face. Keeping your Boston’s joints moving and his body at a good weight will go a long way to making sure he stays healthy. Just be sure to visit the vet before starting an exercise regimen to make sure your Boston is fit for the exercise. If he already has health issues, your vet can help you decide what types of activities he is physically capable of doing.

#2 – Provide Attention

Bred to be companion dogs, Boston Terriers are happiest when they are getting attention from their families. They are not a breed that wants to be ignored. So, play time, snuggle time, training, traveling with you, etc., are all things your Boston Terrier needs to be happy.

#3 – Use a Harness

Because they are a brachycephalic breed, Boston Terriers can have trouble breathing. Using a Y-shaped harness that cradles their neck and spine will make your pup both happier and healthier. Collars can make it even harder for your short-nosed Boston to breathe. Collars also put strain on the trachea and the spine, which is prone to problems in this breed.
