A severely abused poodle, just skin and bones, was found tied to a tree in a deserted part of North Miami, Florida on June 21. A Good Samaritan found the dog while walking his own dog, who he claims “sniffed him out.”
The poodle, now named Sam, was taken in by Florida Yorkie Rescue. A rep for them said it was the worst case of animal abuse they had ever seen.
“Upon arrival, Sam’s eyes were empty,” the Florida Yorkie Rescue says. “He had lost all hope that someone would come to help him.”
Sam had infected eyes, was emaciated, dehydrated, and sunburned. The rescue wasn’t even sure he would survive.
They found over 250 ticks on his body, a tumor and an enlarged spleen, and a Grade Two Heart Murmur.
Unfortunately, there has been no leads in who did this to Sam.
Now, just a week later, Sam looks and acts like a different dog, though he still has a long way to go in his recovery.
The Rescue has been receiving care packages for Sam, and as you can see, he loves his new bed and duds!
He is even venturing out for walks.
OMGoodness!!! Look at who is walking this afternoon. It is just about a miracle! We are so excited for Sam. Look at this little boy go, go, GO!

Sam still has a long way to go with his rehabilitation, however, and so the Florida Yorkie Rescue is asking for donations to pay for his medical bills and treatment. You can donate on Sam’s page on the Florida Yorkie Rescue’s website.
