When it comes to helping furry friends in need, this Shepherd has it covered. Sarge takes any opportunity to comfort an orphaned animal in need, and absolutely shines in the role!

Sarge’s fur mom, Cheryl, helps to rehabilitate local wildlife in her area that find themselves in desperate situations. She welcomes them into her home to give them the safety and comfort they need to enter the wild again, and Sarge is by her side each step of the way.

Cheryl and Sarge’s first orphaned fawn was a sweet baby named Buckwheat that was found lying alone in the road. From the moment Cheryl introduced Sarge to his new foster fawn, it was as if he knew this was his life’s purpose!

Sarge immediately jumped at the opportunity to guide Buckwheat through life. Sarge was there to offer unlimited cuddles, help Buckwheat become steady on his feet, and even help him gain the confidence to explore on his own.

“When we’d take Buckwheat outdoors, Sarge walked alongside him and kept him from wandering. As Buckwheat grew and began venturing out on his own a little more, we would have Sarge go find him and bring him back home.” – Cheryl

Buckwheat was eventually rehabilitated and released back into the wild, but Sarge’s love for fostering wildlife was ignited. Word spread around town about the impressive canine that was helping to nurture wildlife, and Sarge soon became the local wildlife rehabilitator!

Before they knew it, Cheryl’s phone was always ringing with the notice of a new fawn in the area that needed help. Just as happily as Sarge cared for Buckwheat, he continues to care for every single orphan that steps into their home.

“When I walk in the door carrying a fawn, Sarge springs into action. He wants to check them over and he will frantically sniff and nose around to determine their condition. The fawns are drawn to Sarge and feel safe in his presence. Sarge won’t leave their side.” – Cheryl

We are so impressed with Sarge’s dedication to wildlife in need, and can’t wait to follow his journey as he changes the lives of many furry friends to come. Keep up the good work Sarge!
