After a year of grief, Teresa Boeklem couldn’t handle any more bad news. Not only did she have a miscarriage, but her dad died of COVID, her mom died of cancer, and her aunt passed away not long after. So, when she came home to find her 2-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Chloe unresponsive, she panicked.

Chloe had comforted her through every heartbreaking moment during the pandemic. Without her, Boeklem didn’t know what to do. She felt like giving up when she saw the pricey vet bills, but luckily, a Good Samaritan came to the rescue.

A Little Kindness Goes a Long Way

Boeklem rushed Chloe to the emergency vet, where they diagnosed her with an autoimmune blood disorder. The bills for the treatment added up to $2,255, which Boeklem couldn’t afford. But she also couldn’t afford to lose Chloe.

“I looked up at God and I said, ‘really?’ … ‘now Chloe too?’ I said, ‘I can’t do this anymore. I can’t, I can’t.’ I said, ‘I feel extremely alone in this world,'” said Boeklem.

Unsure what to do, Boeklem posted on Facebook, explaining the situation. Soon, she got a response from a stranger, who offered to cover all the medical bills. Boeklem couldn’t believe it!

“She said, ‘I’m calling the vet right now.’ She said, ‘I’ll take care of all the bills.’ She said, ‘you go and take care of Chloe.’ I started hysterically crying. I mean I could not believe it,” Boeklem recalled.

Pay it Forward

The stranger also offered to pay for Chloe’s follow-up visits. The individual hasn’t spoken publicly, but fame and recognition don’t seem important to them. They just wanted to do something kind for a fellow dog lover.

Boeklem said that the stranger became like a mom to her during this stressful time. The individual stayed on the phone with Boeklem all night long, assuring her that everything would be alright. That person’s kindness had an immense impact on both Boeklem and Chloe.

“The takeaway for me is to pay it forward,” said Boeklem.

Boeklem believes that this stranger’s actions saved Chloe’s life. Her relationship with Chloe has been so important amid a year of grief, so she wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the pup so soon. Now, Chloe gets a second chance at life, all thanks to one person’s generous act.

You never know how much a person’s kindness can shape someone else’s life.
