Igor Tracz from Poland is known for winning championships in sled dog sports and bikejoring. He’s used to traveling with dogs, so he has the right resources for transporting those in need. Thus, he knew he had to help out when he heard about animals struggling in Ukraine.
Tracz is currently transporting as many at-risk pets out of Ukraine as possible. Thanks to donations from dog lovers around the world, he has been able to save over 250 dogs and cats from the path of the Russian invasion. He has also been helping Ukraine shelters and rescues along the way. As long as he keeps getting the resources to do so, he’ll keep saving lives!
From Sled Dog Racer To Animal Rescuer
After the terrifying Russian invasion began, Tracz posted on Facebook to see how he could help out. He and his close friends and neighbors were happy to help rescue dogs and cats from dangerous areas, but the need for help ended up being even bigger than they had imagined. They’ve even rescued children and women during their trips.
“I posted on Facebook, ‘Hey if somebody needs my help, I have special trucks perfect for dogs that need to be evacuated from Ukraine,’ and the next day I am gone,” said Tracz.

He said that they’ve rescued about 250 dogs and cats from Ukraine so far. Many of the animals they transport are injured and in need of medical attention to survive. One dog that they took in lost his legs during a bombing. Sadly, he didn’t make it, but they saved many others like him.
As they rescue animals, they also bring donations to nearby organizations. They’ve delivered over 60 tons of food and supplies to shelters that were running low. Their efforts have saved the lives of more animals than they ever imagined!
An Ongoing Rescue Mission
When the invasion began, Jenny Test from the United States was also eager to save dogs in Ukraine. She ran a dog daycare and training facility for over 25 years, so she’s always eager to work with animals in need. However, getting diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease prevented her from doing hands-on rescue work.

However, Test didn’t let her illness stop her from making an impact. Even though she was unable to travel to Ukraine to help, she was able to host a fundraiser for Tracz. She raised money for gas so Tracz could continue making as many trips as needed. Some sponsors also donated food and supplies to Tracz after seeing the fundraiser.
“The fundraiser is to keep him on the road. He’s got shelter on wheels because of what he does in the World Championships,” said Test. “Sponsors are giving free dog food – it’s just perfect and I really want to keep him moving.”

As long as there are animals in need and enough funds to get him there, Tracz will keep going on his rescue mission. If you’d like to help fund Tracz’s trips, consider donating to the fundraiser.
