Buddy, a Golden Retriever, comes from a big family. There are three humans, one cat, and three Alaskan Malamutes in his home. Buddy is used to being the youngest in the family, but recently, his humans brought home another tiny human.
Instead of getting jealous, Buddy decided that the newborn baby is his new best friend, and he wants to be by the baby’s side no matter what.
Buddy’s humans posted a video of him interacting with baby Nathan, and it’s the most heartwarming video you’ll ever see. Despite being an energetic pup, Buddy is calm, gentle, and nurturing whenever Nathan is in the room.
Buddy Loves the Baby
Some dogs have such a nurturing instinct when it comes to babies, and Buddy is one of them. An adorable YouTube video shows Buddy and two of his canine siblings resting near the newborn baby, but Buddy tries to be as close to Nathan as possible. The Golden rests his head beside the sleeping baby, not wanting to take his eyes off him.
The video is just over 3 1/2 minutes long, and the whole time, Buddy is near Nathan. He always rests his head beside the baby or on the baby like a blanket. Two of the Alaskan Malamutes sleep on the floor next to Buddy and Nathan, but neither of them seem as dedicated to babysitting as Buddy is.
Even when Nathan’s mom is feeding him with a bottle, Buddy is right there, making sure everything goes smoothly. Buddy was a tiny puppy not too long ago, but it didn’t take him long to adjust to the role of big brother. All the canines in the household adore the baby, but Buddy has a special bond with him.
The Start of a Lifelong Friendship
That video was just one of many. Since then, the family has posted a few more videos of the Golden Retriever refusing to leave the baby’s side. The Malamutes often come near Nathan to see what he’s doing, but none of them seem to have as deep of a connection as Buddy does with the baby.
“I don’t know what it is about all of our dogs but they just go into little fluffy protector mode. It’s as if they each take turns on duty, I wonder what they say to each other??” Buddy’s family wrote in a YouTube caption. “Golden Retrievers are superb family pets and Buddy is a prime example, he lays beside every chance he can get!”

Since Buddy is the youngest canine in the family, he will get to grow up beside the tiny human. Nathan will have a best friend by his side for many years, and that’s a wonderful thing for a child to experience. Buddy is already a great big brother, and Nathan is lucky to have so many loving family members looking out for him.
