Faust the K-9 had logged eight years of dedicated service, and it was time for a send-off into retirement. It was just like any other day when the dog got into the vehicle that morning with his partner, Senior Special Agent Bryan Schaffer. But an emotional final call was coming.

They’d been through it all as a certified Explosives Detection and Patrol duo, but it was time for that to come to an end. As officer Schaffer calls in to honor Faust, the dog reacts with a whimper and a kiss as if he knows exactly what’s going on.

But the two are not done seeing each other. In fact, Faust is now part of the Schaffer family! Bryan shared some words on Facebook to thank his pet and former work buddy for all he’d done: “Faust, thank you for all the good you have done for BNSF and other agencies – but mostly I thank you for getting us both home safe after every shift.”

How special is this moment? 🙂
