Two dogs, Tonka and Little P, who tragically lost their dad in a hiking accident, have found a new loving home together. The dogs were separated for a few weeks after the accident, as Tonka had broken both of his front legs and needed time to heal. During this time, they were cared for by separate foster families. The dogs’ original owner, Kris, had been with Tonka for ten years and later adopted Little P as a puppy. The two dogs had never been apart.

Kris’s cousin, Crysti, tells the emotional story of the two pups. They were on a hike with their dad when a tragic accident occurred. Kris fell and died on impact. Both dogs stayed by his side until help arrived despite Tonka’s extensive fatal injuries. Once taken to the vet clinic, Little P never left his brother’s side. Because Tonka needed surgery and a special place to heal, the dogs had to be separated.

Crysti took in Little P but knew it was temporary. Their entire family had other dogs and couldn’t accommodate the pair. They needed to find a forever home together once Tonka’s injuries healed. After a thorough search for the perfect family to adopt the dogs together, they were finally reunited and introduced to their new owners, Brandon and Heilea.

The emotional reunion was marked by the dogs howling together, which was interpreted as a message to their late owner, Khris. Tonka and Little P have now settled into their new home, enjoying outdoor activities and bonding with their new family.

Tonka and Little P’s story, and the video below, is a tribute to Kris Busching. May he rest in peace and find comfort that his two dogs found their happily ever after in spite of all they had been through.
