Animal cruelty and abandonment are sadly a recurring theme. But thanks to rescue efforts, dogs like Indy can say goodbye to their tragic past. When a malnourished dog was found tied up to a tree, the rescue team knew they had their work cut out for them. The poor pup, that was skin and bones, was so disturbingly thin that it frightened them. How could anyone be this cruel? Upon rescuing Indy, tests were run and showed that he was in kidney failure. A kind-hearted couple, Scott and Anthony, contacted the rescue team and offered to foster the dog. Within an hour, Indy was brought to their home, where he settled down on the carpet and just laid there. At first, he wouldn’t eat any food except for steak, so his foster dads started cooking steak for him. This was when they started to see a bit of life within the dog.
After about a week, Scott and Anthony took him to the beach, where he became more energized and showed signs of his personality. However, just an hour after returning home, the dog crashed. Indy’s gums turned white, and he started shivering, which led his dads to realize that something was seriously wrong. They rushed him to the emergency hospital, where it was discovered that he had a large ball of fabric within his small intestines. This was the reason for his kidney failure, as his organs were shutting down.
The dog underwent surgery to remove the fabric, and the very next day, he came alive. Indy was ready to continue living and, within 24 hours, was chomping down food and drinking water. Scott and Anthony encouraged him to slow down and rest, but he was eager to live his newfound life.
One of the most important factors for the family was that Indy got along with their best friend’s dog, Godiva, who visited every weekend. The first day the two dogs met, they were smitten with each other, and Indy’s dads knew they had found the perfect dog for them. The once-malnourished dog was intrigued by his new Chihuahua friend from the get-go, watching her every move and following her around.
As the dog’s spirit and liveliness continued to grow, he began to take treats gently from his dads’ hands, just like Godiva did. The two dogs became inseparable, playing and cuddling together. This new companionship made the rescued dog even more loving and affectionate.
Now, when people see Indy and Godiva together, they are often surprised. They expect Indy to be an aggressive dog and Godiva to be yappy, but instead, they find gentle, loving companions. Indy’s dads and their best friend, Keith, couldn’t be happier with their “little married couple,” who now spend their days sleeping, eating, and enjoying life together.
