Angie Harmon has sued an Instacart driver named Christopher Reid and Instacart itself, claiming the driver shot and killed her dog. The incident happened after a delivery at her home in late March, as stated in court documents from Fox News Digital. Harmon wants a jury trial and is asking for damages over $25,000. She described the tragic event on Instagram, saying it occurred right after Reid delivered to her home during Easter weekend.
“He got out of his car, delivered the food & THEN shot our dog,” Harmon shared on Instagram. She mentioned that the incident wasn’t recorded as her security camera was off. Reid defended his actions as self-defense, but Harmon disagreed, noting, “He did not have a scratch or bite on him nor were his pants torn.”
She also revealed that Reid was using a fake identity: “He was shopping under a woman’s identity named Merle… the pic is on my story,” where she posted a screenshot showing a woman’s photo on the delivery confirmation.
Despite a quick police response, the investigation was closed quickly. Harmon later told Good Morning America that an autopsy on her dog showed no signs of aggression.
“It’s so unfathomable to think that there is somebody in your front driveway that just fired a gun,” she recounted. “And you don’t ever forget that sound.”
“He shot our dog with my daughters & myself at home & just kept saying, ‘Yeah, I shot your dog. Yeah I did,'” she said, highlighting the trauma her family experienced.
The local police stated that their investigation found Reid acted in self-defense. A spokesperson from Instacart noted the driver’s account has been deactivated. “Our hearts continue to be with Ms. Harmon and her family following this disturbing incident,” said the spokesperson from Instacart. “While we cannot comment on pending litigation, we have no tolerance for violence of any kind, and the shopper account has been permanently deactivated from our platform.”
