In April 2025, two dogs were callously dumped in the middle of nowhere in rural Texas by the very people who were supposed to love them most. Their owners had already shared Facebook posts trying to rehome them, all while keeping the bonded pair locked together in a tiny cage. Instead of seeking real help, the owners drove more than 40 miles past an open-intake county shelter and left the dogs alone on a desolate country road.
It took rescuers more than two hours of patience and gentle effort to earn the terrified dogs’ trust and bring them to safety. Their condition told a heartbreaking story: frail bodies, blistered and bloody paws from running across rough terrain in the Texas heat, and signs of deep neglect. Thanks to research by BARK Rescue, the individuals responsible were located and arrested for abandoning the dogs.
Both pups, malnourished and shaken, urgently needed medical care. Stress had caused painful cherry eye in both, requiring surgery in addition to the basics of food, hydration, and safe shelter.
A Community That Stepped Up
Hope arrived when these resilient survivors were chosen for iHeartDogs’ April Name a Dog campaign. Our community rallied together with open hearts and generous donations. Supporters provided not only funds for Starsky and Hutch’s medical recovery but also essential supplies for their fellow rescues at BARK.
And, as part of the campaign, it was you who gave them their names: Starsky and Hutch—a perfect pair starting over together.
A New Life Begins
With healing came joy. Hutch and Starsky wagged their tails again, no longer fearful but full of hope. Thanks to BARK and Rescue Roadtrip, the boys were transported from Texas to Colorado, where chances for adoption are brighter.
Hutch’s story took a beautiful turn—he found his forever home with a wonderful family. Starsky continues to thrive in his foster home, surrounded by love and care as he awaits his own happy ending.

Because of you, these dogs are no longer forgotten.
Thank You to everyone who gave, shared, and cared! Starsky and Hutch’s journey from despair to hope is only possible because of your compassion. We promise to continue bringing you more redemption stories just like this, each one made possible by your incredible support.
