For Alice Trowbridge and her family, Zoey has always been much more than a dog. Adopted during the COVID pandemic, the spirited Yorkie quickly became a constant source of comfort and companionship during a difficult chapter of life.

The injuries were severe. Zoey suffered four broken ribs, and both of her lungs had collapsed. Veterinarians rushed to stabilize her, but the outlook was uncertain. The family was told she had only a 50 percent chance of surviving. For Trowbridge, the uncertainty was overwhelming.
“I thought I lost my dog. Scariest thing I have ever been through with an animal,” she said.
