Gomer has seen your parking job, and he has concerns. He noticed what you wore to take the trash outside, too, but he has decided not to say anything about it. He is, after all, a gentleman. Unfortunately, his eyebrows are not nearly as discreet.
The wonderfully expressive dog currently waiting for a home through Ross County Humane Society has been blessed with a pair of eyebrows so spectacular that virtually every photograph looks like Gomer has just witnessed something deeply questionable. His rescuers recently asked how he would feel about having them shaved, and judging by his expression, that suggestion has been formally rejected. That is probably for the best because removing Gomer’s eyebrows would be like taking away his primary method of communication.
Behind that magnificently judgmental face, however, is reportedly a very sweet dog who simply needs someone willing to look beyond his shy first impression. Gomer may need a little time before deciding you are trustworthy, but once that important evaluation has been completed, you could have the perfect partner for sitting quietly together and observing everyone else’s questionable decisions.

Gomer’s Eyebrows Have Become His Signature Look
Gomer’s distinctive facial furnishings caught people’s attention when Ross County Humane Society previously shared him online, so naturally, the shelter decided the public deserved another look. This time, rescuers jokingly asked Gomer whether he would like his eyebrows shaved, and his expression seemed to communicate several objections without requiring a single bark.
He somehow managed to look offended, suspicious and mildly disappointed in everyone involved. Considering those eyebrows appear to be doing approximately 80 percent of his communicating, Gomer probably has a point. Shaving them would deprive the world of an important public service.
According to the shelter, Gomer is “allegedly” a Standard Poodle, which is an objectively funny way to describe a dog whose current hairstyle makes him look like he found the craft scissors while nobody was watching. Standard Poodles may be known for their elegant appearance, but Gomer has chosen a more experimental aesthetic. Think sophisticated gentleman meets preschooler who insisted he could cut his own bangs.
Somehow, it works beautifully. Gomer’s slightly unruly appearance has become part of his considerable charm, particularly when paired with an expression that suggests he has been personally inconvenienced by whatever is happening around him.
He Needs a Fellow Professional People-Watcher
Ross County Humane Society has already imagined the sort of life Gomer could enjoy with his future person, and it involves a considerable amount of sitting around and minding everyone else’s business. Picture Gomer beside you on the porch while somebody across the street attempts a questionable three-point turn. Neither of you needs to say anything because one glance at those eyebrows will confirm that you both saw what happened.
Perhaps you are sitting in the car when someone takes four attempts to straighten themselves between two parking lines. Gomer looks at you, you look at Gomer, and an entire conversation takes place without either of you making a sound. This is the sort of communication people spend years trying to achieve in relationships, and Gomer appears ready to offer it immediately.
He could also assist with evaluating outfits neither of you could possibly pull off yourselves or quietly observing the person ahead of you who just ordered a coffee with six modifications. There is, admittedly, a slight problem with Gomer criticizing anyone else’s appearance while sporting eyebrows that suggest an unfortunate encounter with safety scissors. Thankfully, his shelter says he believes self-awareness is overrated.

The funniest part is that Gomer isn’t actually the neighborhood grouch his face suggests. His rescuers describe him as an exceptionally sweet dog, meaning the judgment appears to exist almost entirely in the eyebrows.
Behind the Eyebrows Is a Shy Sweetheart
While Gomer’s appearance makes him wonderfully easy to joke about, there is an important part of his personality that his future family needs to understand. He can be shy when meeting people for the first time, and Ross County Humane Society hopes potential adopters will give him enough time to get beyond those initial nerves.
A reserved first meeting does not necessarily show everything a dog has to offer. Gomer is described as “very, very sweet,” and the person willing to move at his pace could discover a much softer personality behind that suspicious-looking face. He may simply need an opportunity to observe someone before deciding they have passed inspection.
For a shy shelter dog, meeting potential adopters can be overwhelming. Gomer doesn’t know that the stranger standing in front of him could become the person who gives him a home, a favorite couch, and years of companionship. All he knows is that someone unfamiliar has appeared and he needs a little time to figure them out.
Gomer, therefore, seems less like a dog who dislikes people and more like a dog who conducts his own background checks. Considering the seriousness of his eyebrows, those investigations are presumably thorough.
An “Alleged” Standard Poodle With His Own Sense of Style
Standard Poodles have a reputation for intelligence, athleticism, and an almost aristocratic elegance. Gomer appears to have studied that reputation carefully before deciding he wanted to take the breed in an entirely new creative direction.
There is elegance somewhere beneath those eyebrows, but you may have to squint. His fluffy face gives him the appearance of a dog who woke up late, trimmed his own bangs, and arrived at an important meeting hoping nobody would mention what happened. Unfortunately for Gomer, everybody noticed, and fortunately for everybody else, the results are delightful.
His eyebrows also perfectly complement his quieter personality. Gomer does not need to loudly announce his opinions about the world when one carefully timed facial expression can communicate an entire Yelp review. If someone parks badly, dresses strangely or takes too long deciding what to order, Gomer already has the equipment necessary to handle the situation.
The shelter knows there is much more beneath that wonderfully ridiculous exterior. Gomer is sweet, shy and looking for someone who can appreciate both the dog he is immediately and the more comfortable version of himself that may emerge once he feels safe.

Gomer Is Ready to Find His Favorite Person
Some people want a jogging partner, while others dream of finding a dog who enthusiastically greets every stranger they encounter. Gomer appears destined for a more specialized position as a trusted companion, porch sitter, and assistant director of neighborhood observations. His future person simply needs to understand that earning his trust may require a little patience at the beginning.
In return, they could gain a very sweet companion with one of the most entertaining faces currently searching for a home. Gomer could be there when the neighbor puts the garbage cans out suspiciously early, when somebody abandons a shopping cart three spaces away from the return area, or when a terrible parking job requires immediate silent analysis.
He may look like he cut his own bangs with safety scissors, which means he has absolutely no business judging anyone else’s appearance. Thankfully, Gomer has decided that hypocrisy is a problem for another day. Right now, he has eyebrows to maintain, strangers to observe, and a forever person to find who will happily sit beside him while they judge the world together.
