Why This Recall Matters

Metal contamination in dog food can pose a serious health risk, particularly if a dog swallows a sharp piece. According to the recall announcement, dogs that ingest metal may experience choking, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, or stomach discomfort.

Sharp metal pieces can cause cuts or lacerations in a dog’s mouth or gastrointestinal tract. Metal consumed in larger amounts may also cause gastrointestinal upset or a partial blockage and can potentially lead to an intestinal obstruction.

Pet parents should watch dogs that may have eaten the recalled food for signs of a problem. Symptoms such as choking, vomiting, appetite loss, lethargy, or stomach discomfort warrant contacting a veterinarian. At the time of the recall announcement, Fromm reported no illnesses or injuries associated with the affected products.

What Pet Parents Should Do

Pet parents who have either recalled product should stop feeding it to their dogs immediately. Fromm is asking consumers who purchased Fromm Turkey Pâté Wet Dog Food or Fromm Diner Classics Milo’s Meatloaf Pâté Wet Dog Food with the affected Best By date to return the product to the retailer where it was purchased.

If your dog consumed the recalled food, watch for signs such as choking, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, or stomach discomfort. Contact your veterinarian if your dog develops any of these symptoms or if you are concerned about possible ingestion of metal.
